WAI accessibility guidelines and W3C standards ensure that all visitors can visualize correctly your website, even if they have a disability, or if they use an outdated browser.
That is why Dicovis supports accessibility guidelines to develop our projects meet these guidelines (including this website), order to bring the Web to everyone.
So what are really the accessibility guidelines?
The WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) belonging to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) developed a set of guidelines or basic accessibility rules in order to facilitate access, navigation and provide equal opportunities for participation in the Web to people with disabilities.
Depending on the degree of compliance with these guidelines were created three levels of accessibility: A, AA and AAA. Level AAA satisfies all the checkpoints of priority 1, 2 and 3, and therefore, it is the highest level of accessibility.
Why follow accessibility guidelines?
Because internet is taking constantly greater importance in all areas of daily life: education, health, recreation, employment, government, commerce, etc.. is essential that the web is accessible worldwide to offer an equal chance of participation for people with disabilities.
What advantages can make me respect these guidelines?
1. Increase the number of visitors (potential customers).
2. Increasing the usability of the website, with clear navigation, and easier to read.
3. Due to the repeated use of alternative texts, increases website positioning in Internet search engines, and therefore the possibility that potential customers visit our site, and are interested in products and services we offer.
4. By separating the HTML or PHP to CSS, the content can be displayed on different devices (PDAs, Web TV, mobile, talking browsers ...), saving many development and maintenance costs.
5. Companies that follow accessibility as a pattern, gain social prestige, showing his concern for the marginalized sectors technologically.
You yourself can test the accessibility of your website with a web accessibility test and if your code complies with W3C standards with an HTML and XHTML validator and a CSS validator.
